Thrice-crowned NBA Most Valuable Player Nikola Jokic sustained a "devastating" knee injury when the Nuggets lost by a score of 147-123 against the Miami Heat.

Jokic injured himself in the latter stages of the opening half during an accidental collision with teammate Jones.

The other player stepped on the foot of the big man, and he promptly fell to the ground holding his knee.

The star, that tops the NBA season in boards and dimes, had a score of 21 points and eight dimes in the contest prior to suffering the injury.

Jokic is scheduled for an MRI scan on the following day to determine the seriousness of the issue.

"Instantly, he knew something was wrong," stated Denver coach Adelman.

"This happens in professional sports. Whoever that gets hurt, it's gut-wrenching, particularly a player as talented as he is. We will know more on Tuesday."

"We will continue as a team. Of course, currently, I am more worried just about Jokic as a person and the frustration of going through something like that."
