The Game UN:Me: A Psychological Thriller Merging Silent Hill and Among Us Mechanics

The latest Day of the Devs digital showcase unveiled a number of intriguing future games, but one especially has seized the imagination: UN:Me. Created by Historia and Shueisha Games, this solo adventure seems to blend the dread-filled setting of a Silent Hill game with the suspicion-driven heart of Among Us.

"It's a distinctive experience where a girl containing several human souls inside her must escape from a maze of the psyche," explains developer Yasukazu Kawai.

Stepping Into a Shattered Consciousness

In UN:Me, players assume the role of an unnamed female protagonist seeming to be of teenage years. Within her reside four separate personas, each with unique fears and drives. These entities can take over spontaneously, unleashing their deep-seated terrors upon her without warning.

Based on showcased footage, much of the action unfolds within a creepy medical facility, though additional clips show the main character exploring a desolate chapel.

An Environment of Individual Horror

"What are you afraid of? What makes you uneasy?" asks game director Shun Sasaki. "High places. Small rooms. Authority figures. Elements that appear minor to others can activate something primal within us. This game delves into that idea — fears that are specific to every individual."

The core gameplay loop involves controlling whichever soul emerges at a particular time. However, these souls will change against your will as you play. During exploration, each soul's fears become amplified and attack the girl in succession. When the soul shifts, so does the particular terror the player encounters.

Eerie Visuals and a Deadly Choice

At first glance, UN:Me displays noticeable visual similarities with the Silent Hill series. The setting is populated by orderlies all sporting the identical visage, with unnervingly wide grins. Patients in the lobby have enormous blooms growing from their necks should be. Flowers are a recurring theme, contrasting organic elegance with supernatural dread.

Yet, UN:Me introduces a singular mechanic. Players must determine which of the four souls inhabiting the heroine is the "real" one. "Each of the souls claims that the body is rightfully them," notes a creator. "Throughout the game, you need to figure out who is authentic."

Once players have deduced a soul is fake, they must eliminate it. But, because every entity can deceive or obfuscate the reality, it is incredibly simple to choose incorrectly.

"Perhaps you've already eliminated the true [soul] with your own hands," a voice suggests. "The final entity standing might be a fake. In any case, your decisions are irreversible."

UN:Me does not yet have a confirmed release date, but it is available to wishlist on digital storefronts.
