These individuals are celebrating a massacre that aid workers believe claimed the lives of over thousands of civilians in the Sudan's city of the Darfur city in recent weeks.

An Urban Center Cut Off from the Globe

Following their control of the city under encirclement for nearly two years, from the summer the RSF moved to strengthen its control and prevent access for the surviving residents.

Satellite images reveal that troops started to build a massive sand wall - a raised dirt embankment - surrounding the perimeter of al-Fashir, closing entry points and halting relief supplies.

While the blockade worsened, seventy-eight individuals were slain in an RSF attack on a religious building on 19 September, while the United Nations stated dozens further were murdered in drone and artillery bombardments on a makeshift community in the autumn.

In the early morning on late October the militia conquered the remaining army strongholds and took control of the main compound in the city, the command center of the Army Division, as the government forces withdrew.
