Manchester United Set to Secure Germany Striker Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants

Manchester United are finalising completing the signing for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move from Bayern Munich.

A Major Acquisition for United

Schüller, who has half a year remaining on her deal, is known as a consistent goal-getter for her club and the national team. Having netted over 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. This signing is viewed as a major signing for the Women’s Super League side.

Her exit from Munich was expected since she was seen fighting back tears while thanking the German club’s fans after a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

It was reported in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its leading forwards. Per multiple sources, the formalities for the transfer are now finalised.

Consistent Goalscoring to Strengthen United's Forward Line

The 28-year-old’s arrival should represent a significant boost to United’s forward line. She has been remarkably reliable in front of goal in the Bundesliga.

  • Over seven straight seasons, including the last term, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She won the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Building Steam at Old Trafford

Securing the German international comes at a time when the club appear to be building momentum.

Recent on-pitch successes include qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the mid-season window has seen additional business:

  1. The acquisition of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since arriving in 2023.

Regarding Miyazawa’s extension, a club official commented: “She has become a critical part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability allows her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”

Lundkvist, who has joined from a club in the American league, said: “You can sense how much the club have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
