Fashion legend Antony Price, the groundbreaking UK-based designer who crafted a series of unforgettable images associated with David Bowie, Roxy Music, and Queen Camilla, has passed away at the age of 80.

He was celebrated for his architectural shapes and theatrical styles, such as the soft-colored suits that became famous from the pop-rock group Duran Duran's landmark music video for "their hit Rio".

"Remembering him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' Duran Duran shared a message on social media."

This news arrives just weeks after he presented his newest line in London, his first in more than 30 years. The performer Lily Allen showcased a dress inspired by the iconic black velvet "so-called 'revenge dress'" once worn by the late Princess Diana.

A Lasting Legacy

Born in Yorkshire in 1945, Price headed for London at the start of the 1960s to study at the esteemed Royal College of Art.

Shortly after his graduation, he started his work in menswear at Stirling Copper and was responsible for the body-hugging, buttoned trousers that rock legend Mick Jagger sported during The Rolling Stones' Gimme Shelter tour in 1969.

He established his eponymous line in 1979 and presented his inaugural collection a year later. The show was launched by looks from model Jerry Hall, who also wore the bridal gown Price created for her for her wedding to Sir Mick Jagger.

Partnerships with Stars

A long-time collaborator of the late David Bowie, Price created the distinctive jacket the singer wore for his "As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His signature ability to fuse tailoring for all genders along with his masterful technique in shaping body-hugging looks established him as a "true original," according to the UK's fashion authority.

During the nineties, he started creating outfits for Camilla, now Queen Consort, including a number of outfits for her American tour after assuming the title.

Following a profession lasting more than five decades, Price staged what would be his last show in London recently in partnership with the fashion brand 16Arlington.

  • Architectural Forms: Central to his design philosophy.
  • Dramatic Impact: Influencing music videos and stagewear.
  • Gender-Fluid Fashion: Blurring lines between clothing for men and women.
  • Clients from Stage to Palace: From David Bowie and Mick Jagger to Queen Camilla.

Design circles says farewell to a authentic original whose legacy on style and culture remains profoundly felt.
